The team

Malizia

Team Malizia is an international sailing team, skippered by Boris Herrmann and co-founded by Pierre Casiraghi. Known for competing in world-renowned offshore races, Team Malizia uses its platform to champion climate action and marine conservation. They launched their new racing yacht Malizia – Seaexplorer in July 2022 and are preparing for the big Vendée Globe 2024-2025 and The Ocean Race Europe 2025 with 360T as their new partner.

The skipper

Boris Herrmann

Boris Herrmann is a professional sailor and Ocean Racer known for his impressive achievements in single-handed yacht racing. As the first German to compete in the Vendée Globe in 2020, he gained global recognition for his resilience and talent on the high seas. Beyond his sailing skills, Herrmann is a devoted climate advocate, partnering with scientific organisations to collect Oceanographic Data during his races.

Malizia’s guiding principles

Science

Team Malizia uses its platform to champion climate action and marine conservation. They contribute to scientific research by carrying an Ocean Laboratory onboard the yacht. This portable lab collects Ocean CO2 data during the races. This valuable Ocean Data is then used in Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Reports and the Global Carbon budget.

Malizia’s guiding principles

Education

Team Malizia has created ‘My Ocean Challenge’ – an Ocean Education Programme in multiple languages. It comes with a bounty of content (newsletter, video, quizzes, brochures) and hosts events with the aim to educate children around the world about the importance of Ocean Health and climate change, and how these are intrinsically linked.
